Guided tour of Ouvea
Description
This excursion is available only with a booking at Le Paradis d’Ouvea hotel and it runs every day except on Sundays
Tour:
– First stop at the South end of the Island and get a wonderful panoramic view of the lagoon.
– Cross Mouli bridge, built in 1984, where a gradation of white sand and turquoise blue is amazing. Ideal viewpoint to look at fish, turtles, rays, sharks and a wonderful view on Lekiny Cliffs.
– Coconut oil distillery: thanks to its 3000 ha of coconut grove, Ouvéa has been producing copra oil since 1991. A part of the production is used by Ouvéa soap factory for niaouli soaps.
– Blue hole of Hanaway: this small saltwater hole marks the border between the districts of Fayaoue and St Joseph.
This hole is a natural swimming pool for the children of the island. 500 XPF entry fee is requested.
– St Joseph Church: built in 1912, it is famous for its vaulted wooden ceiling, its pulpit made in kohu wood and its figure of Christ in kaori wood.
– Tiberia Bay and its famous beach where snorkelling is wonderful thanks to a large variety of fish and corals.
– Turtles Hole: it is a freshwater chasm where you can swim. Turtles are commonly spotted here.
– “Monument des 19”: memorial to the 19 activists who disappeared during the riots of May 1988.
– Lekiny Cliffs: these high coral cliffs, carved by erosion are now full of caves.
